Goldenseal and Ginseng Cultivation Workshops 2026
We have two Goldenseal and Ginseng workshop offerings this year at Mountain Jewel in Ozark County, Missouri. The first one is on 9/26 and is a goldenseal deep dive (see details below). The second workshop is on 10/9 and is a workshop focusing on both ginseng and goldenseal cultivation. The one is September will be a deeper focus on goldenseal and the October one will cover both plants and is in collaboration with Ezra Houston, Forest Farming Project Coordinator at Lincoln University. Deep Dive Goldenseal Workshop 9/26/26
Join us for a day focused on diving deep into the woodland understory world of goldenseal.
In this workshop, we’ll go over:
- history, intro to the plant
- harvest, transplant
- propagation
- cultivation
- site selection of this magnificent native forest medicinal
This workshop will be hands on and embodied. We will practice digging, handling and dividing the rhizome from an existing forest patch. We will walk through the forest practicing site selection based on companion species, location, slope, and soil type, and we will plant a patch together.
You will leave the workshop with 4 rhizomes to plant on your own site and with the knowledge and experience to choose a spot, plant and tend it with confidence.
This workshop will take place in Ozark County, Missouri at Mountain Jewel Land Project. We will be outside and in the forest for a 4 hour window. Please brings snacks, water, appropriate attire and come prepared to be in the woods (ticks, bugs, etc).
Ginseng & Goldenseal Cultivation Workshop 10/9/26
Join us for a beautiful day in the forest at Mountain Jewel Land Project in Ozark County, Missouri on October 9th 2026 from noon – 4pm.
In this workshop, we will focus on getting to know ginseng and goldenseal with a very hands on approach. Alongside history and intro to the plants, we will walk through the forest and look at the existing goldenseal patches on the land, harvest some for transplant and practice site selection for both plants. We will dig some goldenseal from an existing stand and will make new plots for sowing ginseng seeds interplanted with goldenseal. Participants will sow a plot of ginseng seeds in the understory.
This workshop is in collaboration with Ezra Houston, Forest Farming Project Coordinator at Lincoln University.
Participants will take home 2 goldenseal rhizomes and 1 oz ginseng seeds. They will walk away with the embodied experience of digging, handling and transplanting goldenseal and with sowing seeds for a ginseng patch and will leave with confidence to do so on a plot of their choosing.
Participants will be sent the address after ticket purchase. Come prepared to spend 4 hours in the woods. Bring water, snacks and appropriate attire for woodland immersion.
