No Data Centers in the Ozarks Tee

In collaboration with the wonderful screenprinting creatures at Critter Butts & Ozark artist Cody G, we present the No Data Centers in the Ozarks Cottonmouth “Don’t Tread On Us” 100% Cotton Tee.

Imagine if all of the two leggeds of the Ozarks rose up in protection of our Place, becoming voices for the water, the soil, the air? What would become of a movement like that?

The fight to protect our water has highlighted our inherent interconnection. Within our karst topography, our waters are connected underground through vast reservoirs. Above ground surface water seeps down and travels. What happens there affects here and visa versa. With this realization, a threat 100 miles away, becomes a threat to our water.

If the developers and tech companies want to quietly slip into the Ozarks, overruling the will of our communities who overwhelmingly don’t want data centers, we will come together, open up our mouths like the cottonmouths and collectively say, Don’t tread on us.

Cottonmouths are often misunderstood as aggressors whereas most strikes are defensive. A much feared water denizen, observational studies have shown that they don’t go out of their way to strike. In fact, they would rather escape and the namesake cottonmouth display is a warning. Most don’t want to strike, but instead hold their ground and show the white cotton of their mouths in a warning display.

We also expand the notion of “don’t tread on me” into “don’t tread on us”. These waters and lands are our waters to protect and we must rise up together!
